How To Maintain Your Washer And Dryer

Posted on

Many people assume that their washers and dryers will always function properly and do not consider any maintenance tasks that they may need to perform to make that a reality. Just like any other appliance or piece of equipment in your home, your washer and dryer require regular maintenance to function as well as possible. Get to know more about the maintenance that you should regularly perform on your washer and dryer so you can be sure you are doing everything possible to keep your appliances up and running for as long as possible.

Inspect Your Ducts and Hoses Monthly

When you run your washer and dryer, you are assuming that all of the hoses and ducts are in place and functioning properly. However, because there is so much motion when a washer or a dryer function, you will want to check and make sure the ducts and hoses are working properly every month.

The hoses of your washing machine should be fit tightly and should be free of any bulges, kinks or other abnormalities. Similarly, the ducts of the dryer should be unobstructed, as free of bends as possible, and should not have any crimps.

If you do notice any of these issues, you should correct them as soon as possible. It can be tough to get back behind your washer and dryer without causing any problems with the connections. As such, if you do notice anything off, you should contact a repairman to come and rectify the problem as soon as possible.

Have the Dryer Ducts Removed and Cleaned Annually

In the process of drying your clothes, your dryer produces a great deal of lint. Most of the lint will get trapped in the screen that you clean after each use of your dryer. However, some will escape through and get caught up in the dryer ducts. Over time, this buildup could cause clogs, fires, or other such issues with the operation of your dryer.

Because of these potentially serious issues, you will want to have the dryer ducts removed from the back of your dryer and cleaned out completely once a year. Your washer and dryer maintenance person will clean out those ducts and help to ensure that you do not have any preventable house fires because of a clogged dryer.

Knowing these steps that you should take to maintain your washer and dryer, you can be sure that you are doing everything in your power to keep your washer and dryer up and running as well as possible.
